The President's Message
This year, our 35th Annual Conference, the flagship event of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Caribbean (ICAC), will be held in Georgetown, Guyana over the period June 22-24. I am pleased to welcome all delegates, spouses and guests to this conference and thank the members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Guyana (ICAG), for being our gracious hosts for our 2017 Conference. The 35th staging of the Annual Conference marks the significance of the role of the ICAC in the development of the accountancy profession in the Caribbean and internationally.
The Institute is solid and its membership strong and we salute the men and women who have contributed to the undeniable growth of this organization.
This year’s theme: "New Horizons: Charting the Course Together," is not only a reminder of the challenges and opportunities that we face as the world continues to shift and change; it is also a call to unity, which is of vital importance as we move forward. We must examine the past, but look to the future with vision, purpose and a renewed commitment to achieving the goals of this great organization. This can be best achieved if we work together in unity as there is “Strength in Numbers”.
As the focus of most countries continue to turn inwards and nationalism increases in popularity, here in the Caribbean, we have a responsibility to harness all available resources and work both as individual territories, as well as collectively as a region, to ensure that development is enabled, progress assured and growth sustained. It is for this reason that this 35th Annual Conference will explore critical issues such as the regional impact of significant international developments, the opportunities presented by emerging sectors and markets, and the challenges being faced by established industries.
Developments in financial reporting, auditing, public sector financial management and ethics will also be included on the agenda. This conference then, will signal our awareness of and willingness to confront the challenges of our time, as well as our commitment to finding to solutions, both as members of the accountancy and other professions, as well as citizens of a developing region. Please plan to join us as we meet for collective collaboration and action as well as networking. We look forward to welcoming you all to beautiful Guyana as together we contribute to making this the most meaningful and memorable conference yet.
